Get ready, theater lovers! David Lindsay-Abaire, the brilliant mind behind Rabbit Hole and Kimberly Akimbo, is bringing his new play, The Balusters, to Broadway, and the cast is absolutely stellar!
We've got some exciting news for you. Michael Esper, known for his work in Broadway's Appropriate and TV's Trust, and Kayli Carter from TV's Mrs. America are joining the cast. They'll be sharing the stage with Ricardo Chavira (TV's Ballard), Maria-Christina Oliveras (Broadway's Between Riverside and Crazy), and Jeena Yi (Broadway's Network). Kenny Leon, the acclaimed director behind A Raisin in the Sun, Fences, and King James, is at the helm.
But that's not all! The previously announced cast includes theater veterans like Marylouise Burke, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Margaret Colin, Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Richard Thomas. This play is shaping up to be a true theatrical powerhouse.
The Balusters promises to be a wild ride. The story centers around the Vernon Point Neighborhood Association, a group with strong opinions on everything from porch railings to trash cans. But things take a dramatic turn when a newcomer proposes something truly controversial: a stop sign on the prettiest block.
Previews are set to begin on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, with the official opening night on Tuesday, April 21.
David Lindsay-Abaire has a fantastic track record with the Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), including his Pulitzer Prize-winning Rabbit Hole and the Tony Award-winning musical Kimberly Akimbo. Leon also has a strong history with MTC, having directed King James in 2023.
