A Plane with ICE Detainees Stranded on the Tarmac at Portsmouth International Airport for Over 12 Hours
A plane carrying ICE detainees landed at Portsmouth International Airport at Pease around 1 a.m. on Monday, but faced a challenging journey due to severe weather conditions. The aircraft was unable to reach the terminal and remained on the tarmac for over 12 hours. Sources revealed that the detainees were provided with meals during their time on the plane. Strong winds initially prevented the plane from being towed, but it was eventually moved around 2:45 p.m. The flight originated from Harlingen, Texas, and its final destination remains undisclosed. Airport officials were only informed about the flight's arrival 15 minutes before it landed, which led to concerns about the decision to allow the plane to land during a blizzard. Portsmouth International Airport officials emphasized the responsibility of Port City Air to plan for weather-related challenges and provide adequate facilities. However, Port City Air officials stated that they do not make decisions regarding flights, as these are handled by the US Department of Homeland Security. They also noted that their operations remain operational throughout the storm, and they are legally obligated to safely service any flights.
