Daihatsu, under the umbrella of Toyota, is set to unveil this concept at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, alongside other futuristic visions. The Midget X pays homage to the original Midget, a three-wheeled wonder from 1957 that conquered Japan's tight streets with agility. The Midget II, its 1996 reincarnation, added a touch of nostalgia to its go-getter attitude, but its production ceased in 2001.
Now, the Midget X is back with a vengeance, and an electric powertrain! This compact LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle) blends the past with the future, featuring a three-seat cabin and a versatile cargo area. Its design is a nod to its heritage, with round LED headlights and a unique windshield. The semi-exposed wheels and integrated lights add a modern edge, and the battery charge indicator on the side keeps things practical.
The interior is where things get interesting. The driver sits in the center, with a unique steering wheel and two flanking passenger seats. The concept showcases a backpack-style storage compartment and an extended rear bed, but Daihatsu hints at more configurations to come.
