The Coastguard has cordoned off a section of the beach at the cliff base, urging the public to maintain a safe distance. They're also advising against climbing or walking near the cliff's edge and recommending that dogs be kept on leads. But here's where it gets controversial... the Coastguard believes that this fresh fall is unlikely to yield any fossils.
The situation is serious, with large boulders tumbling from the cliff tops, rolling onto the beach, and even into the water. This incident follows a similar landslip at nearby West Bay on December 30th, which was caught on video.
The Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile stretch, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for its unique rocks, fossils, and landforms. This area has long been susceptible to land instability. In 2013, nine chalets overlooking Monmouth Beach were demolished due to a landslip.
